Apps just for Girls!
You may use a lot of Apps on your cellphone to socialise with friends, get directions, keep up with your favourite television shows and celebs but how often do you use your cellphone to access information about Sexual Health, as a young person in South Africa. The Girls’Net Team researched some Apps, which can assist young women to access information about sexual and reproductive health. We’ve selected three Apps, each one is either compatible with a WAP enabled mobile phone, a smart phone, an Android Phone or iPhone.
Mxit Reach (Mxit App)
Mxit Reachis about using Mxit as more than a social networking but a portal for education and empowerment. The App offers mobile education in health care, environmental and community development, advocating the Millennium Development Goals.
Mixit Reach is aimed uplifting you! It’s a free App that you can add as a contact to your Mxit account, giving you the opportunity to learn concise facts at the click of a button. With a few Moola, you can download a book, chapter by chapter and follow the lives of interesting characters who rise above the challenges of being an everyday youth in South Africa. You can choose specific campaigns and information portals which resonate with you and keep up to date on the latest information, as a young woman.

Safer Sex(Android App)
Published by HIT, this fully illustrated and easy to follow app is meant for persons above 14 years of age, and is most suitable for those aged 16 and above. Young people are liable to have unsafe sex, which could result in sexually transmitted infections and teenage pregnancies. 'Safer Sex - The Whole Story' provides reliable information in a relevant format to help young people have safer sex. The app costs about ZAR 6.24

My Period Tracker (Android App)
This application is meant for women who want to track their menstrual cycle, in order to avoid situations, where you’re caught off guard or aren’t sure why you suddenly snapped at your boyfriend. With this app you can take note of your moods, symptoms, medication taken or any other period-related information on a menstrual period calendar.
The app allows you to record the full history of your menstrual cycle. Notes on pills, sex or any other information can be attached to each day of the menstrual calendar for later reference. The app predicts menstruation period and probable ovulation days. It also calculates the average period length for every quarter.
